ELD Literacy SMART Goal

ELD Literacy 1 SMART Goal
The percentage of ELD Literacy 1 students scoring proficient or higher in Summarizing will increase from 3% to 20% by the end of first quarter as measured by the Summary Assessment administered on or before October 8th.
ESL English III SMART Goal

Step 5: Determine Results Indicators

If teacher explicitly teaches and models Main Idea Graphic Organizer, then students will utilize the graphic organizer to create a proficient main idea of a reading passage.

ELD Literacy 1 - In ELD Literacy 1, we increased from 3% to 55% proficiency in the skill of summarizing, based on the data below:

Some concerns: Number of students tested (difference). Reading ability - Essentially this is a reading skill, but we tested it through writing, so what does this mean? Go BACK to comprehension and teaching more reading strategies.

Teaching Strategies:
1. Explicitly model and direct students in creating sentences with a subject, verb and compliment.
2. Look at model sentences daily and label the subject and verb.
3. Look at different types of sentence models that contain subject+ verb+ compliment and ask students to develop parallel sentences.
4. Look at model paragraph developed with eleven sentences containing a subject, verb and compliment and then ask students to create parallel paragraphs.
